I've been wanting to write about this for a long time. There's something about GMA 7's latest teleseryes.... what shall I call it? I'll be ranting:
- Not competitive.
- Unimaginative.
- Doesn't have a solid storyline.
- Irresponsible?
Ang huling naaalala kong matinong teleserye nila is "Amaya" casting Marian Rivera, and that was last year (2011). Buti pa yung Amaya may pagka-original pero di parin naiwasan and tunay na ina at nawawalang anak plot. And another teleserye of GMA that I want to commend is "Encantadia" (2005). I really enjoyed that show. I enjoyed the story (even though the pacing is kind of slow), their costumes, fictional language (pashnea, sanggre. Ring a bell?) and their characters. Kids and adults love them. But other than that, wala na akong maalalang ibang shows na talagang nag-enjoy ako.
So, after this, sa tingin ko nakita ng GMA na patok ang "fantaserye" sa mga tao. So sinunod-sunod na nila ito (Kamandag, Zorro, Captain Barbel... teka, puro Richard Gutierrez to ah). They were all so-so. Until the recent programs they launched: Luna Blanca, Machete (Naaawa ako sa program na to. Tinapos agad), Iglot... The list goes.
ABS-CBN 2 made the smart move. They left "fantaserye" genre to GMA 7 and moved back to basics of TV soap drama (Mara Clara remake, Tayong Dalawa) and light drama (My Binondo Girl, Be Careful With My Heart).
Okay. So ano ba talaga ang problema ng GMA 7? I'll bullet point it all to get to the point:
- ehem, they lack fresh writers. Unang una ito sa listahan ko. Hulaan niyo kung bakit.
- Talents of GMA 7 are okay (the actors and actresses). But then, nasasayang lang dahil sa pangit na program na pinagbidahan nila. As in sayang talaga. Nasa kanila si Camille Prats, Heart Evangelista, Christopher de Leon... omg. Christopher de Leon! What have you done to him? He's Christopher de Leon! Tapos you casted him on an action fantaserye?? And his costume on that program screams of cheap! Oh gosh. Just... come on. Feeling ko nawalan siya ng dignidad doon... (sigh). Anyway, bakit ba may pangit na programa? It all comes down to the root of the problem: lack of fresh writers.
- Overuse of top talents. GMA 7, learn from ABS-CBN (di ako fan ng channel 2 pero I have to say this). Stop using Marian Rivera, Dingdong Dantes and Richard Gutierrez on your prime time shows. Nakakasawa. Parang masarap na pagkain na kapag laging kinakain, mauumay ka. Let the people miss their presence. Give chance to your other talents. Ang dami kong nakikitang talents ng GMA 7 na may potential, nababaliwala lang. But then again, what makes a talent shine? A good program to cast on. Hence, lack of fresh talented writers.
Clarity Clarence... Now I know. Ngayon ko lang napagtanto. Kaya pala mas madaming commercials ang mga talents ng ABS CBN kasi sikat sila enough to be endorsers pero di sila overexposed sa TV. It gives them fresh exposures whenever their commercial is on air. Sample is Kim Atienza. While sa GMA 7, ang mga sikat nilang talents ay overexposed at overused sa airtime ng GMA 7 at ang mga ibang talents are not popular enough to be endorsers. Sample is Sam Pinto. Bubble Gang lang ang program niya pero madami siyang commercials. Why? She doesn't have too much airtime (meaning di magsasawa ang tao sa kanya pag nakita siya araw araw sa isang commercial). She's fresh and popular enough to be an endorser. Di ko alam ha. Nagegets nyo ba theory ko? Haha. Moving on...
- Lack of solid storyline. Ang feeling ko, kapag nagkaroon ata ng "idea" for a story ang GMA 7, they just go for it. Pahahabain nalang nila. Babatuhan nalang nila ng plot na "nawawalang anak", "tunay na ina", "overly attached psychotic girl sa bidang lalake" etc. You know the cliche plots GMA 7 has been putting up to. Bakit may ganito? Saan galing ang dilemmang ito? Alam na. Lack of fresh writers.
- Fresh. Talented. Writers. Na-emphasize ko ba? Isama niyo na yung producers.
Okay. I sound like a showbiz columnist now. Di ako professional writer para husgahan ang mga writers ng GMA teleseryes. I'm saying this from a viewer's standpoint. Matagal ko na ito gustong i-point out. They really need a revamp on their showbiz programs. It's reeking of old-style business. Now that I have vented it, I'll just see how it goes for GMA 7.
Goodbye Luna Blanca! I at least watched some of your episodes and I just want to say, cute yung aso pero isunod niyo na yung "Aso ni San Roque".
